Spelling Homework: A Few Tips For 5th Grade Students
Spelling homework is a way of like for a 5th grade student. Spelling is taught at the elementary school level so they become familiar with a larger range of words. It also teaches certain study habits that can be carried on though their academic career. There are a few tips that can make spelling homework easier for 5th grade students.
- - Do your spelling homework as early in the day as possible. The sooner you do it, the less fatigued you will be. Memorization needs energy to succeed. If you are tired, you won’t get any benefit out of doing your homework. Make sure you do it before dinner when you are still fresh.
- - Repeat the words. The best way to learn the spelling words is repetition. Write the words over and over again. Look at them and spell them out loud. Make sure you look at the words as you are spelling them. If you see the words enough, you will notice when they don’t look right so it is good to keep them in your mind.
- - Put your spelling list on the refrigerator. Ask your parents to ask you the words when you are eating. It is a good idea to do it before each meal. This way you will get exposure to them at different times during the day.
- - Keep a current list of the words in the car. The car is a great place to review spelling words. You are kind of a captive in the car and it will give you something to do while you are going from place to place.
Spelling homework is the beginning of memorization skills. You need to find out what method of memorization works best for you. Some people need to write them repeatedly. Others need to see them constantly. I would try many different methods until you find the one that works the best for you. Once you find out what process helps you learn, you can use the same techniques on your other studies. Fifth grade is the beginning of consistent homework. If you learn how you learn the best now, you will be farther ahead in the higher grades. Hopefully you will take the time and maybe ask for your parents’ help to find out the best way you retain things. Once you learn this very important step, you will be at an advantage throughout your scholastic career.
